Our Story

From an 1840 workshop to India's legacy saffron house.

A family in saffron since 1840; the Baby Saffron brand since 1965. We grew, year by year and generation by generation, from a family-owned workshop into a producer outgrowing its own facilities — driven by the same standard of purity that started it all.

What we're building

A purpose, built over six generations.

Vision

As a family, our purpose is to enrich people's lives with healthy food. We envision a future where saffron is a daily-use ingredient, not the niche spice it is today — where every household understands its nutritional value. Baby Saffron is at the outset of a saffron revolution.

Mission

We are a family with a proud heritage, committed to delivering only the finest saffron to people across the world. Our responsibility is to process and clean each strand by hand, package it with care, and deliver it with quality, purity, and trust.

Six Generations

Stewards of the strand.

From understanding the quality of every strand to earning the trust of households and partners, our story has been passed — hand to hand, generation to generation.

Uttam Singh Chhabra
1st Generation · Founder

Founded the family firm that would become USMS — the birth of the brand later known as Baby Saffron.

Arjan Singh Chhabra
2nd Generation

A natural leader whose patient stewardship kept the family — and the standard — together.

Manohar Singh Chhabra
3rd Generation

Built the trust, consistency, and customer-first reliability the next generations would inherit.

Amarjeet Singh Chhabra
4th Generation

Coined the name 'Baby' and pioneered hand-processed Mongra — only the deep-red stigma, never the pollen.

Harpreet Singh Chhabra
5th Generation

Opened the first fully integrated saffron plant in Baddi and invented powdered saffron for instant use.

Avneesh Chhabra
6th Generation

Repositioned saffron as a daily wellness ingredient and built the automated Neemrana factory.

The milestones

Five-year steps, one straight line.

Six generations of decisions, written down. Each window pushed the standard a little higher — purer saffron, better packaging, smarter manufacturing, broader reach.

  1. 1965 – 1970

    The Baby brand is born

'Baby Brand Saffron' was registered in 1965 — the name a quiet promise that our saffron would be as pure as the heart of a newborn baby.

  2. 1970 – 1975

A small place in Khari Baoli

Saffron was hand-processed and packed in homes and rented rooms. We bought our first space in Khari Baoli, Delhi — 250 sq.ft. then, around 1,450 sq.ft. today.

  3. 1975 – 1980

    Choosing reputation over profit

When prices shot up 80% on huge demand and short supply, Harpreet Singh Chhabra chose to supply every order anyway. We lost money — and gained a market that has never forgotten the gesture.

  4. 1980 – 1985

    Transparent boxes & seals

Plastic pouches were spoiling quality in transit. We introduced transparent boxes with protection seals — a visible promise of purity that customers could see before they bought.

  5. 1985 – 1990

    Acknowledged as the leader

Imitations started appearing — a backhanded compliment. Pad printing on curved surfaces was hard to copy, and by the end of the decade Baby Saffron was the acknowledged leader of the category.

  6. 1990 – 1995

    Mongra over Lachha

Indian buyers knew only Lachha — saffron with the yellow style still attached. Amarjeet's vision was to deliver only the most potent part, free of pollen and by-products. We hand-processed Mongra when nobody else did.

  7. 1995 – 2000

Vacuum packaging, first of its kind

We pioneered vacuum packaging for saffron. Then we discovered the southern climate could still let moisture in — so we kept going, looking for something better.

  8. 2000 – 2005

    Blister packs & powdered saffron

Blister packaging arrived — sealed against humidity. And Harpreet Chhabra's vision turned a spice that needed long soaking into something modern: powdered saffron, ready to bloom in seconds.

  9. 2005 – 2010

Baddi — our first integrated plant

The business moved into a fully integrated, in-house processing and packaging plant in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh — where every packaging upgrade was tested for moisture permeability before it ever reached a customer.

  10. 2010 – 2015

An in-house NABL lab, and a first retail home

A government-accredited NABL lab opened on-site, exclusively for saffron testing. The same years, India's first dedicated saffron retail store opened at MGF Metropolis Mall, Gurugram.

  11. 2015 – 2017

    Neemrana — state-of-the-art

A robotics-aided, humidity-controlled factory came online at Neemrana, Rajasthan — production capacity and consistency stepped up together, without ever loosening the family standard.

  12. 2017 – 2019

    Saffron as a gift, reimagined

We saw corporate gifting fatigued by the same dry-fruit boxes. Suede-leather Baby Saffron gift sets — premium, customisable, unmistakably ours — gave the category a fresh language.
